December 30, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce FCY New York as its newest expansion club ahead of the 2021 Spring Season.
Based in Buffalo, NY, FCY New York will begin UPSL play in the Northeast Conference Western New York Division.
FCY New York previously played under the banner of Lackawanna-Yemen Soccer Club, which started in 1975. The club has expanded its competitive reach with men’s teams participating in various Western New York area leagues. FCY New York will exclusively compete in the UPSL.
UPSL Northeast Conference Manager Paul Konneh said, “We’re excited to welcome FCY New York to the UPSL. The club has decades of experience at both the youth and men’s amateur levels and will be a great addition to the Western New York Division. We wish the club well as it prepares for the 2021 Spring Season.”
UPSL Western NY Division Manager Nick Mojsovski said, “I’m excited to have FCY New York join the Western NY Division. They have a rich history in the Buffalo area and I think joining the UPSL is a great move for the club. They’ve won a bunch of titles in the local league and I think they’ll be a great asset to the division.”
Co-owners Taha Omar and Nabeal Saif are both former players and managers of youth and adult teams for the Lackawanna-Yemen Soccer Club in the competitive Buffalo District Soccer League.
“We feel Western New York has a tremendous amount of local talent that can compete at a national level. Joining the largest Pro Development league in the country, our goal is to merge our brand of grassroots-based soccer to a more competitive elite environment. This can provide an additional opportunity and pathway for players in the area to gain more experience and exposure. Having the largest homegrown fan base in the area motivates us to provide them with a higher level of soccer entertainment while at the same time giving something back to the community,” Saif said.
